Located on the western central coast of the Korean Peninsula, Incheon is the second largest port city of Korea. It is also the city where the country’s progress towards modernization first began at the end of the 19th century. Wolmido Island and Yeonan Pier have long been regarded as the most famous tourist sites in Incheon, and eco-tourism courses including neighboring islands, such as Ganghwado and Seongmodo, are currently earning great popularity among visitors. Moreover, since Incheon was designated as a free economic zone based on its advanced infrastructure, including Incheon International Airport and Incheondaegyo Bridge, the city has been playing a pivotal role in logistics, business and leisure sports in Northeast Asia. In particular, Songdo is a planned city that specializes in international finance, trade, and the knowledge-based industry, and includes environmentally-friendly residential areas. Songdo International City has further accelerated its development with the recent decision to accommodate the secretariat of the UN-operated Green Climate Fund (GCF) and the World Bank office.
