Jeju, as the southernmost and largest island of Korea, was created by volcanic eruptions that occurred millions years ago. The island has significant academic values as well as marvelous natural landscapes. Dominated by Hallasan Mountain (1,950m) at its center, Jeju also has many oreum (parasitic cones) and vast open pastures, as well as a trekking course (called ‘Olle-gil’) that was developed around the island based on various features of the natural environment. Visitors can relax to the full at the super deluxe hotels and luxurious resorts in the Jungmun Tourist Complex, and enjoy local delicacies such as fresh seafood and native dishes of black pork. Thanks to the rich tourism resources of Jeju, the island was designated as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World in 2011, and the island’s diverse geographical features including Hallasan Mountain, Manjanggul Cave, and Seongsan Ilchulbong Tuff Cone were collectively registered on the UNESCO World Heritage List under the name of Jeju Volcanic Island and Lava Tubes in 2007.urants serving unique local foods.
